Fall ....

Our heatwave ended abruptly and it's cool enough that I was looking at my winter jacket yearningly for a couple of days.   I figured it was time to dig up the few beets and carrots remaining in the garden and they're on the menu tonight.

This sunflower was a late bloomer and looks so pretty.  All of the others are hanging their heads and their seeds are being enjoyed  by the chickadees...

And these lavatera have endured many nights of frost this month and are still blooming ....

This being pumpkin season and us with no pumpkins but an abundance of carrots means our pumpkin pies are made from mashed carrots - no kidding.  Once I add the spices you'd never know it wasn't pumpkin.  By the way, the MGCC shared their homemade pumpkin pie spice here.
Their pumpkin cupcakes are delicious, too - pumpkin pie without the crust.  And if you want to stabilize your whipping cream try this

It's great you are still enjoying your crops - sounds very tasty.

Very interesting about the carrot pies! I never heard of that, Kate... Love fresh beets--how nice that you are able to grow your own. My husband won't eat them so we don't grow them :)
